Special Airing of Afghan Warrior - Tuesday, December 22 at 8pm

A message from David Shadrach Smith about his latest project: Afghan Warrior

Earlier this year, we spent more than a month traveling the backroads and villages of Afghanistan to try and understand what is in the hearts and minds of Afghanis right now.   Our guide was French/Iranian photographer Reza, who has been taking pictures in Afghanistan for three decades and understands the sweep of recent history there better than most.  His inspiring pictures and profound understanding of the country, we hope, help create a genuine portrait of Afghanistan -- its hopes, its fears, its challenges.  We follow the former routes of assassinated Afghan resistance leader, Massoud, to see what lies in the heart of Afghanistan today, again amidst war.

I am especially proud of this film and the craftwork of all that helped make it.  The film is both beautiful and also a rare glimpse of a people who we see mostly through the prism of battlefields.  We sincerely hope you will have a chance to watch it and let us know what you think.

When:  Tuesday, December 22
Time: 8pm and 11pm (two chances to watch)
Where: National Geographic Channel (check your listings)
