Istanbul

This past New Year Amelie and I had a brief, but wonderful trip to Istanbul. We left Miles our 8 month old son with the grandparents and dropped in on one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen. There are so many things to see and do in this active and welcoming city that our 4 days were packed full of history and food and sometimes food and history mixed together. Our greatest surprise was running into our friends from Roma in the middle of the Grand Bazaar with no idea that they were in the city. Chiara and Alexandro ended up being a huge highlight for us and we proceeded to share adventures with them throughout the trip. We spent two days on the Asian side with a view of the sea (above) and two days in Beyolglu with views of the smokey alleys of the true city heart.

Robert Sara Hart Moto

Yesterday was a day filled with mystery and suspense. We met Robert and Sara Hart at Luxe Gallery and after we all jumped into the Mini, we made our way into east Williamsburg to a top brunch spot called Moto. Great food and lots of good conversations all leaning towards Amelie and her belly expanded to the fullest extent possible. Will the baby be here tomorrow? Next week? or perhaps on his due date of May 9th? Only time will tell. Click on the photo to see more photos of Amelie pregnant.

Brazil 2007!

Well we had the most amazing trip possible this past Christmas and New Years! Two and half weeks of sun, sand jungle, friends, bamboo, oceans, rivers, mountains and of course the music. A big thank you to Antonia and Andres Chaparro for their generosity and amazing hospitality.

Decorate the Tree Party IV

Ho Ho Ho! It's that special time of year again. The one that begins with a Merry (or Happy) and ends with a hangover. This was the Fourth official Cronin Decorate the Tree Party and boy was it rocking! Most of you may know how it works here in Brooklyn, but to sum it up again.....

It all began on a snowy day 5 years ago when my roommate (at the time) Joaquin Torres saw a bright star that guided him home and it was here that the immaculate conception occurred. How could two guys that live together conceive a child? It was the miracle of modern day science mixed with the oracle that had been lurking over our heads for centuries. So to celebrate the coming of the miracle child we traveled far in the deep snow and found the tree that the brightest star was shinning over. We cut it down without any thought about its feelings and we brought it home to dress it it up with lights, colorful balls and ribbons, but it was missing something very important. - THE Ornaments. So we decided to ask all of our friends to come over and decorate the tree properly. The people came from far and wide and each brought ornaments of gold, "frank"-in-sense, and mir. The ornaments all home-made sprouted a competition and this is the tradition. Come to our house, bring a homemade ornament for the tree, drink my homemade egg-nog, and sit by the fireplace praising the coming of the miracle baby*.

Cronin Spurgat on Swing

This last week-end our good friend the talented K. Sloan had her birthday party at the other talented G. Sloan's (her dad) photography studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Doug Jaeger organized a potluck dinner for 30 and as usual the place was full of interesting characters including Mr. Steve Spurgat of Urbis.com (pictured here). Gary Sloan set up a swinging chair photo/booth and captured all of the candid moments throughout the party. If you want to see Amelie and Steve's spoiled romance click here!
